Humanitarian Work

Durrett’s O & P has always tried to help those in need here in the U.S.A. and abroad. It was the fall of 2000 that we were given the opportunity to use our talents and help people of all ages in the country of Bosnia. Bosnia is a country that is still struggling after a violent civil war and cannot provide for the people that have been injured by numerous landmines and other weapons of war. Through a charity called Nobody’s Children we were put in contact with a missionary in Bosnia named Matthew Proctor.

In the fall of 2000 Matthew brought to the U.S.A. a young woman who was a bilateral below knee amputee and a young man who was also a below knee amputee. We provided them both with new prosthetic legs and over several weeks made sure they fit properly before they went back home to their country. Through this organization we have been able to bring 10 other individuals to the US and fit them with prosthetics. 

In the future we look forward to continuing our humanitarian work in partnership with Matthew in Bosnia. Through Miracles a British charity Matthew is currently building a prosthetic clinic to serve the needs of Bosnia’s numerous amputees while educating and training individuals to provide prosthetic care. This will lead to a self-sufficient and self-sustaining prosthetic care facility. Our desire to help others has also lead us to provide prosthetic care in Mexico, Africa and of course here in the U.S.
