The Durrett's Orthotics & Prosthetics team empathizes with families when their children need prosthetics, with an approach rooted in compassion and industry-specific knowledge. We enjoy working with young patients because our custom solutions empower them to live their best lives. Over the years, we’ve developed a deep understanding of how prosthetics for kids help them feel confident and independent.

The Basics of Pediatric Prosthetics
Children’s prosthetics must accommodate rapid growth; we adjust them over time. Unlike adult prosthetics, children’s prosthetics are changed more frequently to keep up with their developmental changes. A well-designed kid's prosthetic leg allows a child to move and play comfortably, which helps their social, emotional, and physical development.
Our kid's prosthetics help children build confidence. With a well-fitting prosthetic, they don’t feel as self-conscious and are more likely to stay active. Durrett’s helps kids play sports, dance, or just run around with their friends without discomfort.
Durrett’s Pediatric Prosthetics are Designed for Function and Comfort
As a full-service prosthetics services provider, we prioritize safety and ease of use in our lightweight, flexible, artificial limbs. We offer free consults before and after surgeries and offer shrinkers for post-operative swelling concerns.
Our team is proud to use the latest technologies, like myoelectric upper extremity prostheses, computerized knees and feet for a kids’ prosthetic leg, MAS sockets, and elevated vacuum-assisted suspension systems. Each prosthetic matches the child's natural gait, making walking, running, and jumping easier. Our prosthetics for kids don’t hinder movement or cause discomfort during long periods of use.
Why Choose Our Team for Pediatric Prosthetics
Anthony C. Ward, CPO-L, came to Durrett’s in 1997. He has ABC Prosthetic and Orthotic Certifications and is licensed in Kentucky and Ohio. Anthony is on the advisory committee for Bluegrass Community and Technical College’s Orthotics and Prosthetic Technology program; he’s a past board member and past president of the American Board for Certification Prosthetics, Orthotics and Pedorthics and the Kentucky Orthotic and Prosthetics Association.
Ronald L. Durrett, CPO-L, became an Orthotist in 1976, working alongside his father. Ten years later he furthered his education to become a Prosthetist. In 1994, he took over Durrett’s Orthotic & Prosthetic Services from his father. Ronald is a past President of the Kentucky Orthotic and Prosthetic Association and is certified by the American Board for Certification Prosthetics, Orthotics and Pedorthics. He is licensed in Kentucky and Ohio as well.
Suzie E. Ward is our third-generation Owner and General Manager. Nikki Greulich joined Durrett’s in 2002 and handles mastectomy services, insurance, and authorizations. Emily Durrett and Sara Merlock round out our team. While we might have different personalities, we have one thing in common: We connect with and care about our pediatric patients.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How do I know if my child is ready for a prosthetic?
A. Since each child’s development is unique, we work closely with parents and medical professionals to answer that question.
Q. How often will my child need a new prosthetic?
A. Children’s bodies grow quickly, so their prosthetics may need adjustment or replacement every six to 12 months. That’s a guideline: Regular evaluations determine the need.
Q. Are pediatric prosthetics customizable?
A. Durrett’s prosthetics are custom-designed, fabricated, modified, and fitted. There is no one-size-fits-all with prosthetics for kids.
Q. Can my child wear their prosthetic for sports and physical activities?
A. Absolutely! These prosthetics are durable and suitable for active children.
